Ohhhhhh...Klahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the plains!!! I think of this song every time I think of Oklahoma! I recently had an opportunity and extreme privilege to be a part of a team, ROW KIDS (awesome organization if you're ever needing an idea for a missions trip!!) We went to the Seminole Nation in Oklahoma to serve with the Native Americans there. We and a few other church groups, were put to work tearing down, burning, pulling weeds, painting and doing whatever else they needed us to do! WE loved it! Whenever you are doing something for someone else, the work you are doing seems to be less trivial than if you were doing it as a chore or something...there's a sense of satisfaction and feeling that you actually did something to benefit someone else! I saw that in the attitudes and heart of the students that went on this trip...even when it was raining or the work was getting long and tiresome, they pushed through and worked hard!
"work at everything as working for the Lord..."
We were also overwhelmed and blessed with the hearts of the people there! Not only did they provide us with a beautiful place to stay during the week, they fed us some GOOD food! What a blessing it was each day receiving home made goods for lunch and dinner!
While there, I learned sooo much about the Seminole Nation...history and current struggles. I was surprised that I had never heard of certain things that were being said and quickly developed a passion and respect for the
Natives in general. I know I look forward to being able to go back to Oklahoma...and visiting new friends that I have made! Chief, Thank YOU so much for letting us be a part of your world! May the Lord Bless and Keep you...
Here's a snippet of Oklahoma through my eyes....
This is Chief...he is pretty awesome :)
